MEET LAURA

Nearly a decade ago, when Laura relocated with her family to Colleyville, Texas, from Washington state, she was delighted with the wonderful public school district.  She and her sons were excited to see that accessible playgrounds were close by. 

After embracing their big move to Texas, the family became plugged into organizations like the Miracle League, Special Olympics, HopeKids, the Arc of Texas, and  GCS Moms League.

Originally from Ohio, Laura has lived all over the U.S. and in Japan where she taught English in five middle schools and for businesses like Honda, Toyota, and Suzuki.  

Ever since she started working at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Laura learned about the challenges people with disabilities endure. Soon after her oldest son was born and diagnosed with serious medical issues, she understood those challenges even more. As a devoted and passionate mother, Laura ensured he lived a rich and full life. She became a fierce advocate and public speaker in order to meet Victor’s medical needs and others like him, in Texas. As Laura says, “Politics found me.” 

Sadly, Victor passed peacefully at home on hospice at the age of 18. 

Staying true to her commitment to disability awareness, Laura’s small business is dedicated to supporting wheelchair users. She’s also a full-time mom to her 12-year-old son, Benito, balancing both roles with her passion for advocacy.

Laura holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut, a Master of Science degree from Wheelock College in Boston, and she is a 2019 graduate of Texas Partners in Policymaking.“I care deeply about people and justice. Elect me to go to work for and advocate for all of the people in Tarrant County.”
